If anyone knows good overclock software i would like to know :)
i cant play with bios and setup cos my guarantee will fu.ck up lol.

Tho, i would like to set my processor a tiny bit faster, it's 2,66 now,  i would like it to be 2,8 or 3,0.
It's around 60 degrees while running already many apps so i think i will set my coolers a bit highier and won't need a new cpu cooling.

If u have any idea's  or know any safe ways to do it, i would like to hear it :P

( btw i ve an  q9450 running on asus pn5-d )

Hi mate

You have basically the same setup as me biggrin

What graphics card you running ???

your cpu doesn't need overclocking, remember, it's a quad, so it's 4 x 2.6
you also have 12mb cache, and it will run almost all games very well, if not perfectly..... It just depends on your GPU.....

I wouldn't bother running an over clock on it just yet mate, wait till you need to, when you can't run a game you want to play, then overclock it.

Also, your cpu is running very hot mate.... I think you need to look at your cooling, the new 45Nm version we have should be cooler than 60Deg.

Which cpu cooler are you using ??
i got a Freezer Pro.....and with my case, it's currently running at
40DegC with a room temp of 23 DegC

case......
Aplus Twin Engine Silver ATX Case With Window - 2X 250Mm Blue LED Fan

So my help for you at the moment mate, is to say wait till you need or have to, then overclock...untill then be happy you got a kick ass cpu and motherboard.....

iirc his gfx is a top end Nvidia 260 or 280 ? so i don't think thats causing a bottleneck anywhere, & as Mc says, an oc on the CPU isn't needed unless your just trying to boost your 3dmark score. & that doesn't allways mean a better result in game, HOWEVER... It can make a big difference on day to day apps, as a lot of stuff won't use the extra cores, but if you do decide to try an oc, don't attempt it if you are using the "stock" heatsink & fan, even in a well ventalated case with loads of fans (like your cool antec case ;) ) having a stock heatsink doesn't allow the heat to wick away from the cpu fast enough, so spend at least 15-20 euro on an upgrade (i would do that anyway on any gaming system i build) & if your gonna overclock, use quality thermal paste, it really does inrease the cooling performance by allowing better heat transfer between the cpu & heatsink, i recommend arctic silver 5, it's cheap enough at about 3 euro's for a 3.5g syringe (that'll do about 3 or 5 applications) as an example, my apple mac mini originaly had a 1.66ghz coreduo cpu, now, bear in mind this is a tiny multimedia pc, only about the size of 2 double cd boxes stacked on top of each other, & under normal load the cpu temp was around 55 degree's (hotter than my gaming pc, but well within tolerence levels) & i did a custom upgrade to a 2.16ghz coreduo cpu, i had to use the same heatsink & fan, cos the machines so small, you gotta use the original components etc, & the cpu heat jumped to 70 degree's & the fan was on more, making it more noisy (& the bloody things in the bedroom, switched on 24/7...) so i strip it down & use better thermal paste (arctic silver 3, woulda used 5 but all i had was 3 lol)

heat dropped right away, now never goes over 45-50 degree's, & on a gaming pc, going hot for micro seconds will cause a crash, same applies to your GFX cooler, & as you got an nvidia card, theres lots of nice coolers available for it ;)

you CAN alter your bios, theres no way it will alter your warrenty m8, & anyway, if anything happens & you can't even get back into bios, just remove the cmos battery (big round silver thing on motherboard) that resets everything back to standard ;)

well mate, to remove the battery i need to enter the case hum? lol i cant do it in any other way. or... i could remove that sticky thing on the back, open my case and then glue it back on xD

and yes i have the gtx260 card, its already overclocked, well the box says it is, lol. and my card runs at 45 deg. with a normal cooling i guess.

and ye, i got the standard cpu cooling, it was 60deg then cos i had ut running and some other stuff lol, when i don't do anything it's around 45.  ( well, i have to say it's sometimes v hot in my room:/ )

and this is my case mc :)

and when i ll want to buy a new cooling i ll buy a thing like this  lol,  bassicly cos it looks very cool xD (asus triton78)

OMG, they put a security seal on it ? !!!!!! in this country they cannot stop their warrenty if you upgrade memory/hard drive/ gfx etc, not even Dell & apple put security stickers on pc's over here :/

i dunno what your laws are there, but here you can upgrade etc. (pc's not laptops, tho you can still upgrade ram/hard drive on laptop without killing your warrenty)

well.. thats why i said i cant play with bios , if it goes wrong, i cant reset it lols. but i think the warrenty is only 1 year so its not that long lol, ( the system warrenty it is, not the apart components - that one is way longer, like life-long ram warrenty lol) seals are so lame lol :/ they put seals on everythin here ogs.... not my idea :(

and kai, i tried clockgen b4,   i pushed that button to the right, and my system froze for 10 mins then i thought, ah fu ck it - restarted and removed clockgen xD

omg surched it with wrong name ! and i found the mistake or i found why your cpu is sometimes used with high % because your c1e step is on when its not really hard in use your core speed goes down to 2ghz look at the pic ya send me ! that means your cpu multiplier goes down to 6 * 333mhz normal use is 8 * 333mhz

so kami now i tell ya

your cpu runs with 2,66 ghz it means 333mhz (fsb) with 8 multiplier

but your ram runs with 400 mhz because of spd ( 5 : 6 )

if ya wanna change your cpu speed ya have to set up the fsb

so and here is your problem

2,66Ghz
333 fsb normal , spd 5 : 6   ( 333 : 5 = 66,6      66,6 * 6 = 399,6)
400 mhz ram (good)

2,8Ghz
if overclock  350 fsb , spd 5 : 6 ( 350 : 5 = 70      70 * 6 = 420 )
420 mhz ram ( not so good ) it could work maybe if ya set up the ram voltage

if ya wanna overclock your cpu ya have to look which spd is available!!!!!!!

i ll take a example

SPD     1 : 1    ( maybe you have more )

it means your ram will work with 333 mhz or called DDR2 667

but if overclock your cpu (fsb) your ram will go up too !

like fsb 350 mhz your ram will work with 350 mhz too ( called DDR2 700)

so short 1 :

fsb * multiplier = cpu speed

fsb : spd 1 * spd 2 = Ram mhz
